Timperley U13: 11
Norbury U13: 8
Timperley U13 today hosted a strong Norbury U13 side. We were missing some key players, but it didn’t stop Timperley putting on a great display.
Timperley U13 have a great squad, and today showed the strength in depth that is key to the success of this group. (Long may they play together!)
And together is exactly how they played today. Norbury were tough opposition, but the threats were limited to a few key players.
Timperley have key players all over the pitch. And it’s the way those players adapt and gel that makes watching these girls play so satisfying.
Timperley took an early lead and were never behind in the game. Norbury kept snapping at our heels with some long range shots, but at the breaks it was great to hear the girls themselves coming up with ways to deal with the opposition. They are an intelligent, engaged and talented group.
We did indeed find ways to stifle the Norbury threat, and despite some aggressive play when Norbury were becoming frustrated by the Timperley play, our girls kept their heads and concentrated on playing the game.
Our goalkeeper was terrific.
Our defenders mobile, intelligent, solid.
Our midfielders battled as hard in defence as they were clinical in attack.
Our attack was rarely static, and played with great awareness.
Above all, the desire to fight for each other and the intelligence to know when to run and when to pass was the difference today. I’m very proud of you all.
My thanks to Robin for his help, insight and encouragement. Thanks also to Cengiz for refereeing a tough game for us at late notice. And thanks to the parents for your great support.
This was a hard earned and very well deserved win!
