I could almost repeat the last match report when I say that we had great lacrosse playing (and watching) weather again this weekend for our first league match on a lovely playing surface at Oxton.
Timperley had a strong turnout with 17 girls raring to go against a young Oxton team. It quickly proved to be rather one-sided as Timperley went quickly into the lead with our defence completely untroubled in the first quarter.
This allowed us plenty of opportunity to rotate the Timperley players to give all of the squad some game-time. The rotation gave the game a little more balance and at last the Timperley defence saw some action. Oxton are comparitively inexperienced, but tenacious and they never gave up. Nonetheless Timperley ran away 18-0 winners.
It was great to see so many goals, but it was even better to see the defence and the two goalies standing firm to ensure a clean-sheet – a very rare occurrence.
The Oxton coach was gracious in defeat and most complimentary about our team, which had 9 girls playing U13 lacrosse for the first time this season (and adapting to it very well indeed).
There is still plenty to work on throughout the team, and this is no time to relax as there are many much tougher games to come this season!
